Criminal Justice Reform

S. 1789, Fair Sentencing Act of 2010:

  • On August 3, 2010, the bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama and is now Public Law No: 111-220.
  • On July 28, 2010, the House voted to suspend the rules and pass the bill by voice vote. (text: CR H6196-6197).
  • On March 17, 2010, S. 1789 passed the Senate with an amendment by Unanimous Consent. (consideration: CR S1680-1683; text of amendment in the nature of a substitute: CR S1682).
  • On March 11, 2010, the bill was marked up by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and ordered to be reported with amendments favorably.
  • The bill attracted 23 cosponsors.

  • On February 23, 2009, H.R. 1127 was introduced in the House by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren.
